On Saturday, April 2nd, Erika’s private music studio will have a spring jazz recital in celebration of National Jazz Month at Steinway Gallery, 500 E. Moana Lane in Reno, 2 p.m. On Sunday, April 3rd, 2 p.m. Erika’s School of Song performance at the Reno River Room-Wild River Grille will take place at 17 S. Virginia St., Ste. 180 in downtown Reno on the Truckee River, tel. 775.284.7455. On Wednesday, April 6th, 8 a.m., Erika is a music and arts presenter at Yvonne Shaw Middle School Career Day in Sparks. On Thursday, April 7th, 3 p.m., Erika plays on the piano and sings for the elder care concert series through Sierra Arts at Alterra Wynwood, 200 E. Prater Way in Sparks. On Friday, April 8th, 2:30 p.m. Erika and her husband Dwight perform on piano, guitar and vocals for the alzheimers residents at The Arbors, 2121 E. Prater Way in Sparks. And on Sunday, April 17th, 3 p.m. Erika plays piano for the Sierra Swing Big Band, Elks Lodge in Reno 597 Kumle Lane, by the Reno Convention Center, 3 to 6 p.m. Enjoy classic big band music and fun dance arrangements performed by a real, LIVE 16 piece big band. $10.00 a person. The Nevada Arts Council, The National Endowment for the Arts and the Nevada Department of Cultural Affairs have graced me with a BETA (Better Teaching Through The Arts) Grant to make this unique event and labor of love possible for all of you to enjoy. And it’s free. The event: Exotic, Elegant & Earthy concert & clinic is Saturday, Nov. 6th, 4 to 7 p.m. at the Steinway Gallery in Reno, 500 E. Moana Lane. In November, Erika’s BETA grant from the NAC (Nevada Arts Council) generated the support for her concert/clinic event on Sat. Nov, 6 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Steinway Gallery in Reno, Nevada featuring Erika on piano and vocals and music friends and colleagues Dallas Smith on east indian bansuri flute and Susan Mazer on electro-acoustic harp. The event is free. On Saturday, Erika performs with the Sierra Swing Big Band for trumpeter Leo Molino’s daughter Apple and future son-in-law Kristian “King” Ramiro’s private wedding reception at 5 p.m. featuring bandleaders Russ & Judy Lindquist, music director Dr. Don Simpson and vocalist Ronda Shen among some of most talented local teachers and musicians to round out the band.

In October, Erika received a 20 years service award on the state level from the National Music Teachers Association (NMTA) and a 15 years service award on the local level from the Northern Nevada Music Teachers Association (NNMTA) to go with her permanent national certification in excellence for private piano and theory teaching on the national level for the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA).
The Nevada Arts Council awarded Erika with a BETA (Better Teaching Through the Arts) grant to fund a clinic and workshop she is preparing on piano and vocals including music artists Dallas Smith on east indian bamboo flute, reeds and saxes and Susan Mazer on electro-acoustic harp for the event scheduled in November.
Erika will visit New Jersey and New York with husband Dwight Carlson to perform for her sister-in-law, choreographer and dancer Carolyn Carlson’s dance workshop and attend her Double Vision show in the theatre at Montclair State University.

Back in Reno, Erika will perform her style of jazz music at the Wild River Grille, 17 S. Virginia St. on the Truckee River in Reno, Nevada on Friday, Oct. 1st from 6 to 9 p.m., on Sunday Oct. 24th from 6 to 9 p.m. and on Halloween, Sunday Oct. 31st from 2 to 5 p.m. featuring costumes and music played by dedicated students from her private music studio in Sparks.
